Zafir : Our Creation of Oud Wood by Tom Ford is a refined Oriental Woody fragrance that epitomizes understated luxury. Introduced in 2007 and crafted by perfumer Richard Herpin, this unisex scent unfolds with an exotic blend of rare oud, enveloped in warm spices and woods. Smooth sandalwood and creamy vanilla balance the intensity, while smoky vetiver and amber lend depth and sensuality. The result is a composition that is both mysterious and irresistibly elegant.
It's 2009, I work in some trashy clothes shop in my trashy town, a woman walks in and fills the room with this absolute bomb of a fragrance; and up until now, I've known only CK One and TF Black Orchid. I'm smitten, I ask what it is, she tells me. I'd recently watched A Single Man and loved it. Was already one of my favourite books. Anyway, a few weeks later I head to London, and buy it. This was my introduction to my fragrance obsession—or rather, the search for something to replace what this became was the introduction. I wore Oud Wood for years and nothing else, but somewhere along the line it changed. It got shit. It also went from £120 to £240 (50ml). I hold a special place in my heart for what it once was, but never will I wear this again. Tom Ford, I love you, but wtf bro.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Expected something really dark and heavy but it's slightly medicinal and woody, not really a huge wow thing, it's an understated kind of thing, doesn't scream.
Great woody fragrance. Even though its appearance and name is quite dark, it doesn’t require a trained nose to appreciate it. It has a pretty rich smell. Even though it’s an awesome fragrance, it’s still overpriced asf just like other Tom Ford Private Line fragrances
The older I get the more I appreciate and understand it. This is not a loud screamer, it’s a silent luxury smart whisper. A scent for you, not to fill the room and impress others. And what an incredible scent. Sensual, warm, comforting. I simply love it.Woody, vanilla, santal, vetiver and a touch of oud but not the dirty one. It is more of a support to lift the scent to another level.I am more of a chinos and shirt type of guy. In winter i love a cashmere sweater. This scent suits my style perfectly in my opinion. You do not need to be a suit wearing guy for this. However be of a certain age or mature level to rock this. Wear it with presence and confidence.Unlike what others might say, i think longevity is great, with a soft projection. Nothing too aggressive but lasts a good 10-12 hours. On wool sweaters it stays forever.
I must admit, I do enjoy an oud. It is a scent that defines masculinity at its core. That is, if it's done right. I got my hands on a sample of Oud Wood from a discovery set, and at first, I despised this scent. The cardamom in the opening smelled like some seasoning you put in a stew or food, and that is what threw me off. I had such a hard time liking it, but the more I smelled it, the more I got accustomed to it and the more intrigued I became. The Woodiness and the spiciness came together during the dry-down, especially the hint of Sichuan pepper. It made me feel like I'm standing in the presence of a strong, dominant, serious man who doesn't play about.Would I wear this fragrance myself? Probably not. Oud Wood is a mature scent, so think of men wearing tailored suits and expensive watches. Not everyone can pull off an Oud scent, but if you do, you certainly have confidence and reek of class.8/10
