Leathered Bloom : Our Creation of Santal 33 by Le Labo is a distinctive woody aromatic fragrance designed for both women and men. Introduced in 2011 and crafted by perfumer Frank Voelkl, this modern icon opens with a spicy and dry accord of cardamom and iris, setting a smoky yet refined tone. The heart reveals creamy sandalwood paired with cedar and leather, evoking the spirit of the American West. The base lingers with warm amber and musk, delivering a sensual, enduring trail that feels both rugged and intimate.
Stright up smooth wood with a unique hint. At first I thought I caught a whiff of coconut but then i got closer and got hit by none other than a vetiver and a hint of unknown note that adds a "green" aspect to the fragrance. It's sillage and longitivity are very good tho.
Santal 33 has a really distinctive smell that’s hard not to appreciate, that dry, woody profile feels both clean and a little rugged in a way that stands out.
the official scent of every 'creative director' in a gentrified neighborhood. Is it a good fragrance? Yes. Is it ruined by the fact that every TikTok influencer uses it as a personality trait? Absolutely. It’s a beautiful sandalwood trapped in a cycle of overexposure. Wear it if you want to smell great; just don't expect anyone to think you're original
Reminds me of Santal & Vanilla from Sand+Fog and Santal and Vetiver from Salt & Stone. Very classic deep but clean woody, vanilla but wayyy too over priced.
Santal 33 was one I approached with very high expectations, mainly because Le Labo is the brand that opened the door for me into niche perfumery and this is known to be their signature bestseller. The opening caught me completely off guard, very sharp, slightly sour, with a strong pickle and dill vibe that felt almost confusing at first. As it settles, it becomes much smoother, softer, and actually very elegant in a quiet, understated way. There’s something about it that feels very old money, clean, woody, and effortlessly put together. I do enjoy it on myself, but I feel like it truly comes alive on a man, where that classic masculine elegance and natural coolness just sit perfectly and turn it into something really special on a man who wears it with ease and make it his own.
