Black Ritual : Our Creation of Black Orchid by Tom Ford is a dark and decadent oriental floral fragrance designed for women who embrace mystery and elegance. Introduced in 2006, this scent opens with a luxurious burst of truffle, exotic gardenia, and black currant, balanced by sparkling citrus notes of bergamot, mandarin, and Amalfi lemon. The heart is a complex, intoxicating bouquet of orchid, spices, and floral tones like ylang-ylang, jasmine, lotus, and fruity nuances. As it settles, the base unfolds into a rich and velvety layer of Mexican chocolate, earthy patchouli, and warm incense, softened by creamy vanilla, amber, and sensual woods. Bold and unforgettable, it is a fragrance of power and allure.
Sexy, gothic, mature. Unisex, leaning feminine. So blended I can hardly decipher any notes. There is earthiness to the point of almost muddiness. Incredibly abstract. Definitely has a black licorice vibe to me, but I think I do understand the truffle top note too. Makes me think of a graveyard or funeral home. This is a cold, unfriendly fragrance. This has a massive personality but is not a crowd pleaser. I think the most confusing thing though about it that I can't quite make sense of is that it is both a sterile fragrance and a dirty one. I think of a pristine morgue but I ALSO think of a zombie trying to claw its way out of its grave. I tried this when I was younger and I remember despising it. I don’t loathe it anymore, but this is not “me”.
Suggestion: Can we, as the world biggest fragrance community, step up and visit ifra or Tom ford? Or maybe both:p? And ask them politely to bring back all the good stuff like; Tobacco oud, tobacco oud intense, oud wood intense, plum japonais etc….And also make all the private blend stronger like the used to be! Because it hasn’t been that long ago (2018/2019) that I sprayed oud wood and it lasted about a week on my clothing. And of course I’m not even talking about the first batches (2007/2014), those were like spraying pure perfume oil:p.Or the first time I sprayed Tuscan leather, never forget it had a sillage round 18 hours….. I really miss those moments…Ps…. Of course I would like to see this for more brands and perfumes like Gaultier2, Dior homme intense, Dior homme parfum, bvlgari pour homme etc…..
I do really like this but... it didn't ever really settle into my skin. Felt like I was wearing an expensive coat that wasn't mine.
Bloody gorgeous.That’s it, really.
A wonderful start full of quality dark chocolate and light menthol, it almost makes you salivate eventhough not gourmand, but... why mix in the intense scent of suntan lotion? That's really not conceptual and for me it ruins the rest, a great shame for an interesting scent. Nothing dark thanks to this sunny beach vibe :(
