Midnight Shot : Our Creation of Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is a captivating Oriental Vanilla fragrance for women, launched in 2014. Crafted by perfumers Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp, and Honorine Blanc, this scent opens with a vibrant burst of juicy pear, sparkling pink pepper, and the soft sweetness of orange blossom. The heart reveals an addictive blend of rich coffee and elegant jasmine, deepened by bitter almond and a hint of licorice. As it settles, a warm base of creamy vanilla, earthy patchouli, smooth cashmere wood, and cedar leaves a sensual and lingering trail — bold, seductive, and unapologetically modern.
This fragrance is so good, so damn good ... for like one hour, then it disappears. I can only assume it's been reformulated because no one put up with such crap longevity and projection, especially for an EDP, in 2014.The first spray is euphoric: spicy-fruity pink pepper, freshly brewed black coffee, pungent anise (black licorice, I presume). The coffee is very prominent, even in the warm, musky drydown, but I get the cedary notes too. The vanilla comes knocking but is definitely not the star of the show.Vampish, lascivious, decadent ... if only she stuck around for a while, but she walks into a room only to turn around and stroll back out. Such a shame.
I was excited to get a tester of this as I had heard so much about it. It was not what I expected, it smelled very generic and had no notes to get excited about. Maybe it just does not work on my skin but I am really glad I did not blind buy a bottle of this.
Notes quickly fade and it just smells of alcohol. It's very generic; I want something bold. I wore it today just to feel something because I wore it with her—I feel nothing.
I terribly miss the OG Opium. I still have my original bottle and I use it extremely sparingly because it needs to last me until I die. I thought I would give the Black Opium a try to see if it had any of the OG essence in it. Not at all. This is a typical "modern" perfume that just smells overly sweet and not at all unique or original. For the price point, I think it has poor sillage and longevity. I would expect better from YSL who used to make some exceptional scents. With Black Opium, you can get the exact same thing from a different brand at better value if overly sweet scents are your thing. In general, this is a very generic perfume which I will not repurchase.
@ taelovegourmet, Try a different flanker. The original is definitely not their best recipe!
